Our children leave with superb water confidence, many of them proficient swimmers, a vital skill for life.
Experts in Wrap-Around Care
We understand parents' desire for expert wrap-around care to help juggle the logistics of daily life. Our school day commences at 8.15 am, with a Breakfast Club available in our dining room beforehand (a small additional charge applies), enabling parents to drop off their children from 7.30 am. In Lower School (Reception - Year 2) the official school day finishes at 3.30pm. However there is the option to stay for one of our superb co-curricular clubs and activities as part of our Old Hall Horizons programme. Many of these are included in the fees, those run by outside providers do incur a small additional charge. If your child stays for an activity the school day is extended until 4.20pm. Lower School children can then stay for 'tea' club (a small extra charge) where your child can enjoy some food and activities before pick-up. Tea club extends the Lower School day to 5.30pm.
In Upper School (Years 3-6) the official school day finishes at 4.20pm. However there is the option to stay for one of our superb co-curricular clubs and activities as part of our Old Hall Horizons programme. Many of these are included in the fees, those run by outside providers do incur a small additional charge. If your child stays for an activity the school day is extended until 5.30pm.
Our school day timings have been designed with parents in mind; Lower School and Upper School siblings can be collected at the same time, and also at the same time as any children attending Wrekin.
Old Hall Horizons
We are proud that our after-school care is not just an activity to fill a child's time before collection. The Old Hall Horizons programme has a comprehensive range of different activities designed to enhance and expand on our already excellent curriculum focused on four key areas - sports, academia, the arts and life skills. Activities for Upper School can include cricket, swimming and tennis clubs together with STEM, Coding, language and philosophy sessions. A similarly ambitious programme in the Horizons scheme for Lower School children includes dance, Fun with Food, Beatrix Potter, tennis and yoga.
Out and About
We believe that life outside the classroom is vital to a child's confidence and ability to face and conquer the challenges they will face in life. From Year 3 every child goes on a residential trip once a year. In Year 3 it is just two nights away, but the time and challenges progress as children move through the school. The children have a go at all manner of activities designed to challenge them and equip them with a variety of leadership opportunities and important life skills, in addition to confidence and team building. Without doubt, when you ask the children their favourite memories when they leave Old Hall they always say their residential trips!
Food, glorious Food
All pupils eat lunch in the Ward Room, accompanied by staff, where they are encouraged to exercise good table manners. Meals are well-balanced, nutritious and varied and the children are encouraged to adopt a healthy attitude towards food. They are also encouraged to try new flavours and textures in order to expand their tastes. We provide an extremely high standard of dining for our pupils, prepared by our award-winning catering company, Holroyd Howe. Holroyd Howe operate solely within the independent schools market. They focus on fresh, nutritious and innovative food, whilst providing a tailored experience for pupils, staff and visitors. Holroyd Howe’s chefs take pride in sourcing and using the best seasonal, local produce available to create exciting menus; these include traditional favourites, international dishes, healthy and sustainable options. The catering team works closely with Old Hall to ensure that the nutritional needs, allergies, dietary requirements, preferences and desires of all pupils are consistently and thoughtfully met. Our pupils are encouraged to try new foods, Holroyd Howe provide Tasting Tables, theme days and Food Explorer days, these are age-appropriate and encourage even the fussiest of eaters to try something new!
Matron
All children feel under the weather from time to time, and as every parent knows, grazed knees are a regular occurence! However, we have a dedicated first aid room, staffed by two first aiders, known to the children as Matron. Our Matrons, Sarah and Alison, are always on hand to patch up wounds, distribute medication, make children feel better, provide a friendly face and ring home when necessary.
Chapel
We share a Chapel with Wrekin and journeys there to join together and reflect are often. Regular Upper School chapel services take place every Friday, led by the Chaplain Rev. Plummer, which involves a simple child-friendly act of worship, during which, time is given over to prayer and reflection. Whole school Chapel services are also held to celebrate Harvest Festival and Christmas and to remember those who gave their lives in the service of their country. Our Mother's Day Service allows us to thank all the family members who help us and our End of Year Service also provides our Year 6 Leavers with the opportunity to reflect on their time at Old Hall, to give thanks and to pray for a happy and purposeful continuation of their education as they move on. While Old Hall has a Christian ethos, we welcome all faiths and none, and see our time in Chapel as one of thanksgiving, learning and community.
Uniform Shop
Buying your uniform for Old Hall is easy. Our uniform is provided by School Shop Direct and we have our own Trust uniform shop on site. When you join us you will be invited to book your own personal slot to ensure you have the time to get everything you need. You will be advised what to buy, and there is a small selection of second-hand uniforms you can choose from at certain times of the year. The shop is open at certain times during term time for anything you need to replace once outgrown. You can also order online from School Shop Direct or visit their shop in Shrewsbury.
Wrekin
Old Hall belongs to the same educational Trust as Wrekin College, an independent co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11-18. Both Old Hall and Wrekin are based on the same campus; we are in separate buildings but share many common facilities and resources. Old Hall's links with Wrekin give it access to a plethora of superb facilities which many prep schools are envious of. The majority of our pupils make the natural progression to Wrekin after Old Hall where they can keep old friends and make new ones, and feel 'at home' while also experiencing the 'butterflies' of going to 'big school'; an important part of growing up.
The nursery at Old Hall is operated by Daisy Chain Daycare from 7.30am to 6pm daily, throughout the year. The nursery has its own entrance to purpose-built facilities within the school,
